{"id":977,"date":"2010-12-01T10:09:26","date_gmt":"2010-12-01T16:09:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chrissniderdesign.com\/blog\/?p=977"},"modified":"2010-12-01T10:09:26","modified_gmt":"2010-12-01T16:09:26","slug":"top-newspapers-on-facebook-december-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chrissniderdesign.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/01\/top-newspapers-on-facebook-december-2010\/","title":{"rendered":"Top newspapers on Facebook &#8211; December 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Below are the latest numbers comparing how many followers (likes) each of the largest newspapers in the country has on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>It was an important month for newspapers on Facebook for a few reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The New York Times<\/strong> now has more Facebook fans (962,028) than daily print circulation (951,063). This marks the first time a newspaper has reached that mark, and no other paper currently is even close.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The El Paso Times<\/strong> (which is actually not one of the largest papers by print circulation but is on this list because of its large number of Facebook followers) became the first paper to see a drop in Facebook fans since I started tracking numbers earlier this year. The Times lost 7,860 fans, but still remains among the Top 10.<\/li>\n<li>Newspapers are starting to catch onto using custom landing tabs instead of sending user directly to their Facebook page&#8217;s wall. Papers with custom landing tabs include: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LINews?ref=search\">Newsday<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/thecharlotteobserver?ref=ts\">Charlotte Observer<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/statesman?ref=search\">Austin American-Statesman<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/palmbeachpost?ref=ts\">Palm Beach Post<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ladailynews\">LA Daily News<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/eptimes\">El Paso Times<\/a>. Here&#8217;s some info on <a href=\"http:\/\/highedwebtech.com\/2009\/06\/19\/how-to-add-a-custom-tab-to-your-facebook-fan-page\/\" target=\"_blank\">creating your own custom landing tab<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Honolulu Advertiser<\/strong> no longer exists, but it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HonoluluAdvertiser\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook page is still growing<\/a>. I&#8217;ve switched to tracking the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/staradvertiser\" target=\"_blank\">Star-Advertiser<\/a> page (which explains the loss in fans on the chart below).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you know of a FB page I should be tracking, or if you see that I&#8217;m tracking the wrong one for your organization, please let me know in the comments below.<\/p>\n<h3>The top 10<\/h3>\n<p>We saw some movement in the Top 10 this week.
