Top newspapers on Facebook – February 2011

Want to more than double your Facebook fans in one month? That’s easy: get your local team in the Super Bowl.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Facebook page jumped from 4,668 fans at the start of January to more than 10,000 at the end of the month by taking advantage of the Steelers Super Bowl run. The paper gave away tickets to the Super Bowl through its Facebook page and is currently running a photo contest (through Wildfire) that has more than 400 entries.

A couple other notes:

  • The Atlanta Journal-Constitution joined the Tribune-Review in entering the 10,000-like club. The club is now 19-papers strong, with the New York Daily News poised to join next month.
  • The Salt Lake Tribune was another big gainer, increasing its fans by 85 percent.
