I spoke at the Iowa High School Press Association fall conference Thursday (Oct. 29, 2015) in Iowa City about how their publications could use Snapchat.

Which means two things:

1. I had Vine wings.
2. I did a survey of the high school students who attended my breakout session.

When we discussed which social networks were most important to high schoolers in 2015, they seemed to agree that Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook were the big 4.

But their poll results had tumblr, Vine and Pinterest all ahead of Facebook. And there was no love for Facebook Messenger.

In the poll, I asked the students to rate eight social networks from 0 (hate it) to 5 (love it).

A total of 26 students finished the poll. 18 of them were female.

Here are the results:

Network Rating
Snapchat 4.23
Instagram 3.81
Twitter 3.27
tumblr 3.12
Vine 3.08
Pinterest 2.69
Facebook 2.42
FB Messenger 1.92

I also asked them what is their favorite social networK

Instagram: 9
Snapchat: 7
Twitter: 7
tumblr: 2
Facebook: 1

Here’s my more complete research on what my first-year college students think about social media: What the Class of 2019 thinks about social media.

And here’s the survey I did with high schoolers at this conference last year (and my Vine wings from last year).
